Join AMA for our April member meeting as we welcome Marcia Anavitarte-Jordan, Sr. Housing & Employment Mediator at Texas Workforce Commission - Civil Rights Division. Note that this presentation will be 1.25 hours. Life, Mediation and the role of the Mediator forever changed as of March 2020. People are now faced with new challenges that even the most vivid imagination could never dream up. Mediating the two major areas of anyone’s lives, employment and housing, has changed as well, but are we as mediators ready for this vast new territory? We will be discussing Title VII, Age, Disability, Accommodations, Pregnancy, Employment and Race, Color, National Origin, Sex (Gender), Disability, Accommodations based on Disability and Familial Status (Family Status) and the complexities of how these two creature comfort intersect, Working from Home, Eviction and ESA (Emotional Support Animals) and Service Animals, Domestic Violence and Threats, Suicide, Social Media, and how we as mediators are to navigate this new landscape with professionalism, empathy, keen listening skills and a great sense of humor.

About the Speaker
Marcia Anavitarte-Jordan, MA-CRR, received her first mediation training at the Neighborhood Justice Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, and has been mediating for over 20 years. She is currently Sr. Housing and Employment Discrimination Mediator with the Texas Workforce Commission Civil Rights Division. Marci holds an Associate of Applied Science in Legal Assistance from the College of Southern Nevada and a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Master of Arts in Conflict Management and Resolution from Abilene Christian University. She is a TMCA Credentialed Distinguished Mediator and strives to be an advocate of individuals’ civil rights through mediation and conciliation.
